Valdicava Brunello Montalcino 2012
The Valdicava estate dates to 1953 when Bramante Abbruzzese returned to the property in Montalcino where his ancestors were sharecroppers centuries before. In 1967 he founded the Consorzio di Brunello. Later, his grandson Vincenzo transformed Valdicava into one of Montalcino’s most collectible producers. The wines are powerful yet elegant, typically layered with dark fruits, roses, graphite, and silky tannins. He maintains quality year after year with low yields and organic farming.
JS96: I like the ripe-fruit and smoked-meat aromas to this. Subtle and complex. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and chewy finish. Needs time to soften. Very structured for the vintage. Best from 2020.
