Staglin Family Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2006
WA96: Staglin’s primary red wine is their estate Cabernet Sauvignon, which comes from their beautifully manicured and cared-for vineyards in the hillsides of Rutherford. None other than David Abreu looks after the viticulture, and of course that means yields are frightfully low. The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate reveals greater fruit intensity and more opulence than the 2005. The Cabernet Sauvignon was picked late at Staglin in this vintage, coming in between October 15 and October 21. The wine has a deep ruby/purple color and a sweet nose of scorched earth, creme de cassis, blueberry, and some cedar and tobacco leaf. Complex for such a young wine, but with full-bodied richness, a multi-layered mouthfeel, and superb purity and depth, this wine will be more forward than the 2005 but last just as long – at least 20+ years.
