Poggio Scalette Chianti Classico 2017
A favorite from Tuscany, Poggio Scalette’s vineyards are planted on privileged terraces running along the slopes of Greve. The vines are more than 90 years old, a rare find from some of the oldest clones of Sangiovese in the world. This is a brilliant Chianti Classico, the perfect combination of terroir and typicity. Fresh red fruit with a touch of spice, silky tannins and a lingering finish.
WA 91: The Podere Poggio Scalette 2017 Chianti Classico opens to heightened intensity and extraction that is characteristic of this hot vintage. The fruit has gained in color darkness and flavor intensity thanks to the summer heat that reduced the size of the berries, thus increasing that deep, inner intensity. However, those Sangiovese-driven flavors of crunchy cherry and wild berry also come through as does the wine's fresh acidity and tannic backbone.
JS 91: There’s lovely purity of fruit to this Chianti with dark plums, red cherries and lemon and orange zest. Medium body, fine tannins and a tangy finish. Drink now.
