Paolo Scavino Barolo Carobric 2016
Paolo Scavino, a historical winery in the Barolo region, was founded in 1921 and remains a family tradition. Winemaker Enrico Scavino began working in the winery at 10 years old and uses 60 years of experience to craft cru-specific wines with brilliant individual styles. Carobric comes from three of Scavino’s best terroirs. A multifaceted Barolo expression with beautiful balance.
VM95+: The 2016 Barolo Carobric is fabulous. Nervous and tightly wound, the Carobric offers up a beguiling mix of crushed flowers, herbs, mint and red berry fruit. There is a feeling of explosive energy that runs through the 2016 that gives its tremendous appeal. Carobric, a blend of fruit from Rocche di Castiglione, Cannubi and Bric del Fiasc, is a bit less showy than some of the other Barolos in the Scavino range, but it has historically aged beautifully. I expect that will be the case here as well.
