Paitin Langhe Nebbiolo Starda 2019
Paitin is one of the oldest and most traditional wineries in Barbaresco, dating to 1796. Their old-vine parcel of Sori Paitin within the Serraboella cru, first produced in 1893, is one of the more structured crus in Barbaresco. The Langhe Nebbiolo Starda is an amazing value, sourced from the Starda parcel on the Bricco di Neive cru. The wine is aged 12 months in Slavonian oak botti. Practicing organic and biodynamic.
JS91: Dried cherry and wild strawberry on the nose, with a pleasant mushroomy edge to the fruit. Medium-bodied with a tight bead of nebbiolo fruit riding the fine, firm tannins. Finishes tight and firm.
WA89: This estate's largest production at 20,000 bottles, the Paitin 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo Starda shows a ripe side of the grape, with emphasis on wild strawberry and dried raspberry. Those aromas fan out within a few minutes to reveal exotic spice, crushed white pepper and crushed flowers. To the palate, this informal Nebbiolo is streamlined and tight. That pretty brightness shown here would make a great companion to a classic chicken roast.
