Mocali Brunello di Montalcino 2013
We adore Mocali. Run by the Ciacci family since the 1950’s, their gorgeous small estate is sheltered by pine and oak forests that also houses two olive groves. The Estate Brunello is 100% Sangiovese Grosso grown in galestro soils. The wine is aged in large Slavonian oak for one year and then in large French oak casks for an additional two years. Packed with dark fruit, tobacco and spice. Sustainable.
92 points, Wine Spectator: "This is perfumed, exhibiting cherry, leather, spice and iron aromas. In the mouth, the cherry and plum flavors make way for assertive tannins. Comes together in the end, remaining fresh on the tobacco- and underbrush-accented finish. Best from 2021 through 2035."
90 points, Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is a dark and savory expression of Sangiovese from one of the most beautiful corners of Tuscany. This is a dark and velvety wine that is packed tight with black fruit flavors, spice and tobacco. It shows texture in the mouth and firm grip that reveals some astringency that still needs to be absorbed and softened with cellar aging."
