Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis 2018
The Droin family has been producing wines in Chablis for nearly 400 years. Benoît represents the 14th generation and is one of the region’s most dynamic winemakers. He is notably moving away from using new oak (the maximum is 10% in the Grands Crus). Although these are full and rich wines, they retain a steeliness, raciness and beautiful purity of fruit which are the hallmarks of classic Chablis. One of the best buys in the region. Sustainable farming.
VM89-90: The 2018 Chablis is lifted, perfumed and sensual, with striking layers of nuance that unfold in the glass, as well as fabulous complexity - especially at this level. Light on its feet with tons of pure energy, the 2018 is flat-out gorgeous. There is just so much to like in this beautiful, vivid Chablis from brothers Jean Paul & Benoît Droin.
