Grgich Hills Estate Chardonnay Napa Valley 2014
Miljenko “Mike” Grgich put California wine on the map. At the now-historic Judgment of Paris blind tasting of 1976, a panel of French judges swirled, sniffed, and sipped an array of white Burgundy and Chardonnay from the upstart Napa Valley. When their scores were in, the French judges were shocked: they had chosen the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay, crafted by Mike Grgich, as the finest white wine in the world. Grgich Hills Estate was founded in 1977 and, like its founder, became a Napa Valley icon. It is committed to natural farming and sustainability, with five certified organic estate vineyards and a portfolio of some of Napa's finest traditionally-made wines. This Estate Chardonnay is from cool American Canyon and Carneros vineyards and is fermented and aged 10 months in French oak. Classically styled, with rich butter, mineral, peach and spice notes, and a zap of natural acidity on the finish.
