Frank Family Chardonnay Carneros 2016
First constructed in 1884, and refinished with native sandstone from the nearby hills in 1906, Frank Family Winery’s iconic Larkmead building is now considered an archetype of California’s wine country. It's the third-oldest winery in the Napa Valley, and Rich Frank and his family are perfect stewards of this historic site. Everything about this estate is connected to family. Its most famous wine, Patriarch, honors Rich’s father who landed on Omaha Beach four days after D-Day. Rich presented the first release of Patriarch to his father on his 98th birthday. This is a family operation in the truest sense, right down to their German Shepherd rescue, Magnum, who is the winery’s official greeter.
The Chardonnay includes fruit from the Frank Family’s Lewis Vineyard, located in the heart of Napa-Carneros, near the shores of the San Pablo Bay. Other vineyards include Beckstoffer and Hudson Vineyards, and Sangiacomo Vineyard located in Sonoma-Carneros. It is full-bodied and creamy yet balanced by its lively acidity; with nuanced flavors of apple, lemon curd, pear, baking spices, and subtle hints of toasted brioche.
