Foxen Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley 2014
WA90: "Spice, underbrush, wild herbs and assorted red fruits all emerge from the charming, medium-bodied, supple, forward 2014 Pinot Noir from the Santa Maria Valley. It's geared for drinking over the coming 3-4 years, but offers incredible quality for not much buck. Note, this is a mix from Bien Nacido, Riverbench and Solomon Hills vineyards, and spent nine months in old French oak."
Foxen is produced at the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in Northern Santa Barbara. Since 1985, Bill Wathen and Dick Doré have been making small production, sustainably-farmed, vineyard-focused wines. They completed a solar-powered winery and tasting room in 2009. This 2014 Pinot Noir is full of red summer fruit with notes of cinnamon and clove. Velvety texture and a long lingering finish. Sustainable.
