Domaine du Père Caboche Chateauneuf-du-Pape Elisabeth Chambellan VV 2019
JD93-95: The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes Elisabeth Chambellan comes mostly from pebbly soils and is 88% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 2% Mourvèdre. It’s partially destemmed and brought up in a mix of foudre, stainless steel, and concrete tanks. I love the nose, and it’s loaded with ripe black raspberry and blueberry fruits as well as candied orange, ground pepper and flowery notes. These all carry over to the palate as well and the wine is full-bodied, has a rounded, layered texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s a rock star in the making.
VM92: Deep ruby-red. Vibrant, spice-tinged red and blue fruit, exotic spice and floral qualities on the perfumed nose. Juicy raspberry, boysenberry and cherry cola flavors show an appealing blend of depth and energy and a spicy flourish on the back half. Closes very long and subtly chewy, with repeating florality and sneaky, well-judged tannins.
