Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 2018
VM91: The 2018 Volnay comes from several parcels. It has a very pure bouquet of wild strawberry, cranberry and light crushed stone aromas, all delivered with fine delineation. The palate is very well balanced with chalky tannins that frame the open-knit, pure red cherry and strawberry fruit, leading to an elegant, persistent finish. Joyful.
JD90: Looking at the base village 2018 Volnay, it has a translucent ruby hue as well as a terrific array of ripe red (and some black) fruits as well as sous bois, sappy spring flowers, spice, and subtle earthy nuances. Medium-bodied on the palate, it's more mid-weight compared to the single vineyards, but the balance is spot on, it has ripe tannins, bright acidity, and outstanding length. It's just a beautiful, classic Volnay in every sense. It benefits from a decant and will be best with 2-4 years in the cellar and deliver the goods over the following decade or more.
