Chateau Lafon-Rochet St. Estephe 2009
JS92: "Pretty aromas of menthol and other spices and red fruits. Full to medium body with fine tannins and a refined finish. Very lovely now but obviously better in 2015."
While this estate was founded in 1650 not far from Cos d'Estournel and Lafite, the winery facility is now super-sleek and modern. The wine is full of tannins, with notes of blackberry, cedar, spice, earth. It is aged in 100% new oak for nine months before moving into 1-year-old barrels for an additional nine months. 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc for good measure.
