Chateau Coufran Haut-Medoc 2016
Coufran dates to the mid-1700s and was once owned by Baron Hector de Brane, who created what we know today as Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Not far from St. Estephe, this is the coolest and most northerly vineyard in the Haut Medoc. It is uniquely planted to 85% Merlot (the highest percentage on the left bank) and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon old vines, resulting in a forward and polished wine perfect for early drinking. Aged in 25% new French oak for 12 months.
JS 92: "The iodine and dark-berry aromas say hello right away. Full-to medium-bodied and nicely framed with chewy, polished tannins and a flavorful finish. A blend of 85 per cent merlot and 15 per cent cabernet sauvignon. Drink in 2022." - James Suckling
