Castello di Ama Purple Rose Toscana 2020
The small hamlet of Ama is among Chianti’s most famous and fertile lands. In the 1970’s, a group of families infatuated with the area decided to form Castello di Ama and make world-renowned Chianti Classico. This Saignée-style rosé is made from the juices bled off the Merlot and Sangiovese wines that will then become their Chianti Classico. Fuller bodied than most with vibrant acidity. A beautiful wine.
VM90: The 2020 Purple Rose, a varietal Sangiovese, is actually quite red in color. Wild floral and herb tones blow off to reveal young strawberries and crushed rocks. This is silky-smooth and pliant, fleshing out across the palate, offering ripe red fruits and minerals motivated by juicy acidity. There’s so much pleasure to be found here, as an enriching note of sweet spice mingles with candied citrus through the long finale.
