Antoniolo Gattinara San Francesco 2010
VM94: "The 2010 Gattinara San Francesco is the most accessible of the estate's three single-vineyard Gattinaras. Another intense, powerful wine, the San Francesco occasionally also show a more tender, welcoming side of its personality. Sweet tobacco, licorice, and dried herbs all add nuance to the beautifully textured. There is a level of sweetness and openness to the San Francesco that the other wines don't offer, at least not today."
Antoniolo is the most dynamic producer in Gattinara, a small DOCG located in the Alpine foothills in Piedmont. This family estate was the first producer to bottle cru wines in Gattinara. San Francesco is 100% Nebbiolo from 55-year-old vines. This is the most accessible of the estate’s single-vineyard Gattinaras. Look for sweet tobacco, licorice, and dried herbs. An excellent off-the-beaten alternative to Barolo or Barbaresco. Practicing organic.
