Pol Roger Rose Brut 2002

Pol Roger only produces the Brut Rosé in vintage years. The 2002 is light and juicy, with ripe raspberry, blackberry and elegant hints of spice and lemon peel. This wine is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay vinified blanc from 20 1er and Grand Crus in the Montagne de Reims and Cote des Blancs regions and the remaining 15% is Pinot Noir that has been vinified "en rouge" and then added to the final blend prior to the second fermentation.
"A delicate, soft pink with Pol Roger's hallmark fine mousse. The nose is fresh, lively and fruity. First impression are of red fruits, strawberry and raspberry, with a fresh but lingering bouquet. This is followed by warmer notes of wheat and dried cereals. Powerful and vinous in the mouth, the wine develops a fleshy texture underpinned by a firm backbone promising a long life." --Laurant D'Harcourt
A full-bodied ros?, bracing and muscular, with its berry, spice and whole-grain notes allied to a dry, chalky profile. Seems locked up tight now, yet the wheat and coffee aftertaste reveals its promise. Best from 2006 through 2015. 522 cases made. ?BS
