Mont Olivet is regarded by many, including Robert Parker, Jr., as one of the world’s greatest wine estates. The wines of this estate trace back to 1547, and are among the finest of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Run by the esteemed Sabon family, Clos du Mont-Olivet is made in a traditional style: partial destemming of grapes, crushing and fermenting in concrete vats, and aging in large foudres.
"Made from 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Counoise and Vaccarese (aged completely in old wood foudres), the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition displays classic, textbook Chateauneuf du Pape aromas of kirsch liqueur, roasted Provencal herbs/garrigue, cedar and loamy soil intermixed with a hint of lavender. Full-bodied and lavishly fruited with moderately sweet tannin and abundant glycerin, this heady, upfront, complex, evolved 2009 can be enjoyed over the next 10-12 years." - Wine Advocate
