"Pinot Noir - A Global Phenomenon"

Pinot Noir is at the top of the heap in virtually every wine professional, and connoisseurs' ranking of grapes. It has earned this reputation by making the legendary reds of Burgundy, and expanded its popularity over the past 10 years in California and around the world. This class will explore the many regions around the world that produce this highly regarded grape. We will explore the differences between regions and try to gain an understanding of what makes each region special.

The class will include a brief discussion of the origins of Pinot Noir in Burgundy, and the expansion of the varietal in Europe. We will then look at the massive growth in popularity of Pinot Noir in the United States, focusing mainly on California and Oregon. We will also touch on Pinot Noir’s growth into the other “New World” regions such as New Zealand, and South America. City Wine Merchant has one of the best, most diverse collections of Pinot Noir around, and we look forward to sharing one of our favorite varietals with you.  Cost is $20 per person.
