Sake 101!

City Wine Merchant is pleased to present this unique Sake Seminar with guest educator, Clay Harpending from Polaner Wines, on Wednesday, July 14th at 5:30PM. Polaner represents Vine Connections, one of the nation's top Sake importers.

Discover what a Sake is, where it is made, how it is made, and what it is made of as we explore the major styles of Sake, the different quality levels of Sake, and how the regional differences can affect the flavor. Sake ‘Terroir’ if you will!  To top if all off, explore some of Sake's wonderful food-pairing potential with some hand-made selections from our friends at Seabar!

We will start the class by tasting three major styles of Sake and learning the basic style differences:

Tozai Living Jewel: Junmai
Tozai Snow Maiden: Junmai Nigori
Tozai Plum: Premium ‘Plum ‘ Sake

Then we will move on to the regional expressions and taste the varying quality levels:

Junmai: Heaven’s Door from Akita
Junmai Gingo: Kanbara Bride of the Fox from Nigeta
Junmai Daigino: Konteki Pearls of Simplicity from Kyoto
Nigori: Rihaku Dreamy Clouds from Shimene
