Shipping and Delivery

City Wine Merchant is committed to protecting every bottle we sell. Wine can be easily damaged in transit so we work to assure
every bottle arrives at its destination in great condition. We are happy to hold all paid wines in our secure on-site storage facility for up to 60 days at no cost, whether you are waiting for extreme weather to pass or cannot sign for your package because you are exploring the world!       

All deliveries require an adult signature, as required by Federal Law. Please ensure that an adult over the age of 21 will be available to receive and sign for your package. We strongly encourage our customers to ship to a business address to help ensure successful delivery.

Local Delivery in Western New York

Orders placed before noon will generally be delivered the following business day, barring seasonal peaks in delivery volume and inclement weather. Orders placed on Sundays will be delivered as early as Tuesday, unless otherwise informed. You will receive a confirmation email or telephone call once your order has been processed confirming your scheduled delivery date.  Please note that all orders must be received by a person 21 or older who can provide proof of age and an adult signature.

Domestic Shipping 

Rates will be calculated at checkout. Please note, we do not ship wine on Friday, Saturday or Sunday unless requested. During times of extreme heat or cold (below thirty five or above eighty degrees Fahrenheit at any point along the transit route), we will hold your purchases until we can ensure safe transport. If you opt to have your order shipped during such extreme weather, we strongly recommend upgrading to express shipping. 

City Wine Merchant will engage with the carrier on behalf of the customer’s carrier contract. In the case of shipments outside New York State, the sole responsibility for complying with local regulations or tax requirements rests with the customer. If we are unable to ship to your area, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and suggest that shipping be arranged to a direct-shipping friendly state. 

Due to regulations, we are unable to ship to certain states. Among others, we are currently not able to ship to Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Utah, West Virginia, Arkansas, Michigan and Texas.

International Shipping

We are able to ship to a number of countries and will work with you directly so you're not left with an unexpected tax or duty fee. Please contact for further information. 

Restrictions and Returns

City Wine Merchant ships merchandise as described prior to the sale.

Terms & Conditions: You must be at least 21 years old to purchase wine. All deliveries require proof of age and an adult signature. All sales are F.O.B. New York. Title to purchased wine will transfer to the purchaser once the purchase price has been properly credited. It is our policy that all custom orders be paid for within 7 days of notification of order confirmation. You may make a payment by clicking on the payment link, mailing a check, or stopping into our store. Payment by wire transfer is preferred for international payments and payments over $1,000. If you are unable to arrange for immediate pickup or delivery, we are happy to hold all paid wines in our secure on-site storage facility for up to 60 days at no cost. Orders not paid for within 30 days may be canceled and items returned to open inventory. Laws governing the sale and transportation of wine vary from state to state. City Wine Merchant makes no representation as to the legal rights of any individual or entity to ship or transport wine into any state outside of New York. 

Bordeaux Futures: Orders cannot be confirmed until payment in full is received. Default in full payment will result in order cancellation without reimbursement. Any other cancellation of futures orders will be subject to a 20% processing fee. Delivery dates provided at time of order are estimates only and not a promise or guarantee of a specific arrival date. Shipping charges, if applicable, will be applied when wine is available for collection. 

Returns & Cancellations: Defective merchandise may be returned for exchange of product(s) of equal value or store credit upon presentation of the following: sales receipt, original bottle (with wine to be evaluated) and cork. As is customary in the wine trade, all bottles 10 years or older are purchased at the buyer's risk. Since we cannot control how bottles are stored once they leave our possession, we will only accept bottles for exchange within 30 days of purchase. Items to be returned are subject to evaluation by our staff, and must be accompanied by your original sales receipt. Cash refunds will not be issued. Cancelled and returned orders may be subject to a 10% processing fee. The circumstances surrounding the order may impact our enforcement of this policy. Special orders are non-refundable. Store Credit must be used within 1 year of the day of issuance.
