Dobbes Family Estate
Grande Assemblage Syrah 2005

Syrah is Oregon's flourishing "non-Pinot" varietal and it responds beautifully to the hot days and cool nights of the southern Rogue Valley AVA. Bold and earthy, juicy and exotic, this wine manifests the unique terroir of the region. The Grande Assemblage Syrah Cuveé is a thrilling expression of the Rogue Valley's fascinating varietal. This multi-dimensional wine is produced from well-established, organically farmed sites from cooler, higher elevation vineyards that allow for longer hang time, fuller flavor development and natural acidity. Each site contributes particular nuances that lend a multi-layered complexity to the blend.

This small family estate strives to produce wines true to their varietal character with as much depth, richness, elegance, balance and flavor possible without going over-the-top with tannins, extract or alcohol. Close attention to detail in the vineyard such as crop load, site selection and harvest timing, gentle handling of the fruit, as well as fermentation and aging methodologies leads to wines which are juicy, mouth-filling and delicious with well-balanced acidity. The Grande Assemblage is crafted to be very drinkable and approachable while young, yet have the structure and acidity to age well and reward the patient.

We tasted this wine at our store recently, and we were impressed with its depth, complexity of flavor, and sheer enjoyability. In short, this drinks like a $30 bottle of wine - and, in fact, routinely sells for $25 or more! At less than $15, this wine is an amazing value. Don't miss out!

Hazyblur Shiraz Barossa Valley 2005

This beauty puts out an alluring nose of cedar, tobacco, pepper, bacon, blueberry, and a hint of white chocolate. This is followed by an opulent, chewy wine with mouth-filling flavors, serious depth, and a long, pure finish. Seriously good. This will drink well for years. (Wine Advocate, 95+ pts.)
